Headteacher’s letter to parents/carers

12 September 2022

Dear Parent/Carer

We have been pleased with the way in which students have returned to College and settled to their learning.  Last week in the Whole College Assembly we emphasised the importance of making the most of their education and making every minute count, of being respectful, safe, kind and resilient in learning even when it is demanding.

We were pleased with how the previous Year 11 cohort performed in their public examinations, despite all the challenges that the pandemic presented.  We are proud of their performance; they are now able to access A Level or equivalent Level 3 courses which will move their education on further.  Year 10 students performed well in their Early Entry courses giving them a good start to their courses in Year 11.

This morning we held a Whole College Assembly to honour our Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her death last Thursday.  The Country is currently in a period of National Mourning which will finish at the end of the State Funeral.  This is time for reflection in response to the death of the Sovereign.  The Department for Education has confirmed that normal school attendance is expected during this period.

The date of the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been set for Monday 19 September.  This day will be a Bank Holiday and settings that are normally closed on a Bank holiday will close on this day as a mark of respect.  The Department for Education has confirmed this will include schools.  Therefore, College will be closed on Monday 19 September.  I hope you and your family will be able to use this day as a time for reflection and commemoration of the remarkable life of our Queen.

Yours sincerely
Mrs J A Summerfield
