Coronavirus – Remote Learning at HTC

There are a host of resources and opportunities to learn if not at College.

The number one place to go is Firefly ( ). The log in for each student is the same as their log in for the College network.

Within reason students should follow their normal timetable day for what to study and when.

Every Department/subject has links for KS3 and KS4 students to programmes of study (which contain revision materials, lessons, tutorials, tests and video depending on the subject/Year you are looking at), specific revision pages and ‘online learning’ websites such as Maths Watch, BBC Bitesize, Mr Bruff, Doddle, Kahoot, PIXL, SamLearning and Senaca to name but a few.  Many subjects have lessons that cover their entire curriculum.  For example English have a full suite of lessons, term by term:

English KS3:

English KS4:

Maths programme of study also links to specific lessons and tasks depending on the Year. For example:

Maths KS3:

Maths KS4:

All subjects have so many resources and activities for students to do.  They simply need to log on and go to that subject and explore/navigate through the links accordingly.  A summary table and ‘online platforms helpsheet’ is also attached.  Some subjects may also set individual and/or specific task/other online platforms for students to follow which will come direct from them.

In addition, every students’ progress review (report) contains a ‘skills matrix’ which links their progress to specific activities and tasks to do that will help an individual develop in that area.  This is personalised for every child and in every subject.  All students have their reports on Firefly and these will go back a number of terms and months depending on what Year the student is currently in.

We appreciate this is a difficult time. No one has a crystal ball and knows exactly what will happen but if students use the resources available they will have enough activities and tasks to do that will last them many weeks and months.  It really is not possible to say ‘there isn’t anything to do’ or ‘I have done what is on Firefly!’ Further remote learning activities are also summarised in the ‘Learning from Home’ attachment below.

If a child does not have access to the internet/remote learning we can offer a laptop to use at home – priority will be given to disadvantaged students and most vulnerable.  The number of laptops is not inexhaustible/infinite and we only have a set number for loan. Please contact Mr Sheppard ( 02392 594325 Ext 203 if you would like your child to loan a laptop (subject to availability).

We will of course keep students and parents informed of any developments as they arise through announcements in classcharts, the College website and facebook.

Students can also email their subject staff for specific help and advice and as long as staff are well they will respond to them as soon as possible.
