Students and staff at Horndean Technology College were today celebrating fantastic GCSE results – with 9 students achieving the best possible result of a 9 in Maths and 6 students achieving a 9 in English. This new grading surpasses the well known A* result and is proof of how HTC continues to achieve results above the national average.
75% of HTC students achieved a standard pass and above in Maths – which smashed the national average of only 59%. In English, the national average of a standard pass and above was 62% and HTC students yet again surpassed this with 73%.
Particular individual successes include Oliver Beken who achieved 1 A**, 12 A-A* and two 9s and Joe Labedz who achieved 1 A**, 11 A-A* and one 9. Monique Khan and Zoe Parsons also achieved incredible success with 9 A-A* and one 9, and 9 A* and three 9s respectively.
Nigel Sheppard, Deputy Headteacher said “Once again HTC is well above the national average in English and Maths and indicators suggest progress is yet again excellent for all students.”
Headteacher, Julie Summerfield congratulated the students’ achievements; she said “We are immensely proud of the way our young people took on the challenge of the new specifications and did so fantastically well! Staff and Students have worked very hard as a team and it was very pleasing to see so many delighted students today”.
