The College is proud to offer a diverse and exciting range of extra-curricular activities for students to take part in. These range from Chess Club, Eco Club, DIY and Coursework support as well as Music, Arts and Sporting Clubs.

Each term there is a booklet published of the available activities which is given to each tutor group and also available from Barton Hall reception.

In September, there is an Extra-Curricular Fayre where students and parents can see what activities are on offer and speak to staff and students involved.  Unfortunately due to current circumstances this will not be held this year.

What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a registered charity, increasing opportunities for young people between the ages of 14 and 24.

It is a life-changing experience where young people can have fun with friends, discover new interests and talents; as well as developing essential transferable skills for life and employment.

Bronze, Silver and Gold

Young people can participate in a DofE programme at one of three progressively challenging levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.

DofE Sections

There are four sections to complete for both Bronze and Silver level, and five sections to complete at Gold level.

Why do the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

The Duke of Edinburgh Award provides a fantastic opportunity for you as a young person to achieve so many things! Not only will you be enhancing your own skills, interests and talents, you will be making friends, helping the community and challenging yourself! You’ll enjoy loads of new experiences as well as having fun along the way! It really is a great opportunity for you, and one you will not want to miss out on!

DofE at HTC

At HTC, you will be supported by a great team of DofE Leaders who you will know and trust. You will have a fantastic support network from staff/leaders and friends who will work tirelessly to ensure you achieve your award. At HTC, you will start your Skills, Physical and Voluntary sections in the Summer term of Year 9 to ensure you have plenty of time to organise your academic work alongside your DofE sections. This has proven to work very well and allows students to organise their time effectively around their studies and personal interests.

Application Process

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a very popular extra-curricular activity at HTC and therefore we have adopted an application process to ensure all students have an opportunity to express their interest in the award and why they would like to complete it. At HTC we offer the Bronze award to students to complete during Year 10, however we start the application process during the Spring Term of year 9.

Additional information regarding the DofE at HTC can be found on the student firefly page.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
